When their son Boaz was born with spina bifida, Sean and Kait Saffold never imagined he would inspire them to build a business—and a new future.
In 2018, while living in Myanmar, they welcomed Boaz into their family. Because he required advanced pediatric care, they relocated to Sequim, Washington, to be near Seattle Children’s Hospital.
While the move gave Boaz access to the care he needed, for the family, it also meant starting over. Without jobs or a reliable income, Sean and Kait faced the challenge of rebuilding their lives while learning how to navigate their son’s ongoing medical needs.
Traditional 9-to-5 roles couldn’t provide the extreme flexibility required to manage Boaz’s medical appointments and daily care. The Saffolds needed complete control over their schedule, so they decided to create their own.
When neighbors began asking Sean for help with odd jobs, he saw a lifeline. He traded his sedan for a pickup truck, collected used tools at yard sales, and enrolled in the Center for Inclusive Entrepreneurship’s (CIE) Start Simple Business Course. With that, his window-cleaning and lawn-care company, Sincere Services, was born.
Like many entrepreneurs, Sean learned by doing. Every satisfied customer led to another referral, and every completed job helped build both the business and his confidence. Throughout it all, Kait managed Boaz’s daily care, making their business a true family partnership. Today, Sincere Services provides more than income. It gives the Saffolds the flexibility to care for Boaz while building a future rooted in resilience, purpose, and community.
