A couple of well-deserving “hooligans” were featured in yesterday’s Sequim Gazette.
Mackenzie Grinnell and Jaiden Dökken, founders of Two Hooligans Cider, won the Sustainability Award at our 2019 Coast Works Sustainable Business Competition, and they have been charging forward with launching their cider business.
Jaeden and Mack produced their first commercial batch of cider this fall, partnering with Finnriver Cider, thanks to a connection made during the competition. Mack has now purchased property in Carlsborg that he hopes will be the new home of Two Hooligans.
What makes Two Hooligans Cider unique is how they source their apples. Rather than growing or purchasing apples, they glean unharvested apples from local trees of friends and family, using fruit that would otherwise be wasted.
Jaeden and Mack exemplify the type of triple bottom line businesses that Coast Works hopes will be the future of business on the Olympic Peninsula. They are part of a growing number of young people who left home for the city life, but now chose to return to and invest energy into their rural roots.
In the article, Jaeden credited CIE’s Coast Works training (recently renamed Bootstrap Business Course), with helping them move forward.
Congratulations, Mack and Jaeden! Keep up the good work. We can’t wait to taste the (fermented) fruits of your labor!
