To other aspiring artists

“The best advice I can offer is don't give up. Living in a rural community it's gonna be a challenge to find your network and how you fit in, but once you do you'll have a pretty tight net.”

- Lee Sekaquaptewa

Working with CIE

“CIE has helped me learn to look at things from an entirely different perspective. As an artist my focus has always been on creating, never on business. Although I still have confidence issues and understanding my own value, it's important to understand the value of the community you're in. Know your market, know your audience.”

Working with Lee

CIE facilitated the launch of an inaugural Startup Palouse cohort in Pullman, Washington in March 2022. Startup Palouse was part of the Live Local Palouse initiative, a collaboration with the Spokane Independent Metropolitan Business Alliance and the Small Business Development Center funded in part by a Washington State Department of Commerce Small Business Resiliency Network grant, Innovia, Washington Trust Bank and others. Lee participated in our cohort and upon graduating he received a $500 seed grant to help him keep moving forward with his business idea.

“I'm very proud of everything Lee is doing with his art but for me personally I am most proud of his mural at the Palouse Discovery Science Center. I visit this science center with my toddler often and it wasn't until I met Lee in our class that I realized he was the artist behind the mural. It is such a beautiful gift to Pullman and I hope he is making plans to create others in the future. But until then, I'm making plans to go see his art exhibition at the Dahmen Barn in Uniontown with my family.”

- Juan Garcia, Business Advisor

Exhibit at Artisans at the Dahmen Barn July 10, thru July 31.
